Habeus corpus appeals by Martinelli ex- secretary rejected
PANAMA’S SUPREME COURT of Justice (CSJ) has rejected three of the preventative four habeas corpus appeals presented by Adolfo Chichi De Obarrio, Private former secretary of former President Ricardo Martinelli.
On December 3 through his lawyer, Edna Ramos, De Obarrio made four appeals against the four anti-corruption prosecutors, to avoid being arrested in connection with nine allegations of embezzlement and corruption in the National Assistance Program (PAN).
In three separate decisions dated December 11 the appeals filed against second corruption prosecutor Lizzett Chevalier third anticorruption prosecutor Lorraine Coronell; and fourth anti-corruption prosecutor William Parodi, not viable.
Chevalier and Coronell replied on December 5 at the CSJ that they have not ordered arrested or investigated De Obarrio. Parodi prosecutor sent a similar response on December 10.
Judicial sources reported that the fourth habeas corpus filed against first anticorruption prosecutor Nahaniel Murgas, has not been resolved by reporting judge, Harry Diaz,.
The sources said that the plenary of the Supreme Court did not accept the impediment, so that Diaz should resolve the habeas corpus.
On November 25, De Obarrio gave a press conference and denied being linked to the payment of bribes for contracts in the PAN, as was stated by an anonymous complainant to prosecutors.
That same night, De Obarrio left the country and traveled to Puerto Rico.
Ramos confirmed that he returned to Panama on Monday December 8.
