Container movement up 12% in 8 months

 

THE MOVEMENT  of TEU containers (20 feet)  in Panama’s National Port System  in the first eight months of the year increased 12.2%, compared to the same period last year, when there was a decrease of 13.0%, according to a report by the Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) ).

According to preliminary figures from the Comptroller General, up to August 2017, 4,573,683 TEU containers were mobilized, while in the same period of 2016, only 4,076,047.

Up to August the National Port System received 497,636 (12.2%) TEU containers more than last year. However, the figure reached this year is still lower than in 2015, before the expansion of the inter-oceanic route, when 4,687,376 TEU containers were mobilized in the main ports of the country.
