The Challenge of the 2027 Budget for Panama According to the Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama (CCIAP), believes that the approval of the General State Budget for 2027 for 35.11 billion, represents an opportunity to address the main needs of the country, boost the economy and improve the quality of life of Panamanians. CCIAP recognizes the greater focus on public investment as positive, although it warns that the real challenge will be to ensure that the approved resources translate into concrete works, services and solutions for the population.
The business sector points out that Panama needs to move forward with infrastructure, education, health, drinking water, and public services projects. However, it maintains that simply allocating budget funds is not enough. Planning, adherence to schedules and monitoring are required to ensure that the projects are carried out and completed.
The organization also focused on the communities affected by the recent earthquake. It acknowledged the government’s efforts to assist affected families, but stressed the need to sustain recovery efforts and complement them with measures to revitalize local economies, support small businesses, and create jobs.
Another point raised by the association is the responsible management of public funds. Given the country’s many needs and limited resources, maintaining fiscal discipline, transparency, and quality spending is considered essential. All state institutions must review their priorities, avoid unnecessary expenses, and ensure that each allocation responds to real needs, under criteria of efficiency and accountability.
The Chamber reiterated its willingness to work with the Government and other sectors to promote economic growth and citizen well-being.
