26 firearms plus other weapons seized in prison crackdown

Following the shooting, in La Joya and Nueva Joya prison last weekend in which a police lieutenant and a prisoner died while others were injured, authorities seized a total of 26 firearms of different calibers and ammunition.

Among other confiscated items, are bladed weapons, sharp blades, technological equipment, chargers, digital weights, and illegal substances, among others.

The director of the National Police, Jhon Dorheim, has led the requisition actions in Operation ARMAGEDDON VI, in which they have used a contingent of 500 units.

Dismissals
On Monday morning, Minister of Government Roger Tejada announced that in the last two weeks, 12 officials of the Penitentiary System have been dismissed for irregularities within prisons.

Among the dismissed officials there are psychologists, social workers, custodians, and officials of the penitentiary technical board.

He also removed the director of one of the prisons and the director of Internal Security from his position, to submit both to an investigation.

‘’We will not tolerate corruption. The dismissals are due to the introduction of articles and concessions to prisoners,”Tejada said.
