Fifth arrest in cult injuries probe
The guarantees hearing taking place on Saturday, April 15, against four people allegedly linked to a sect and who are accused of allegedly attacking various people, was resumed and will be joined by a fifth suspect who was arrested earlier in the day.
The Bocas del Toro Regional Prosecutor’s Office, through the Homicide and Femicide Specialized Section, apprehended the people, after the events recorded on Peterson Island, Kusapín, in the Ngäbe Buglé region.
The victims turned out to be three minors and two women, who had multiple injuries from blows and burns and who are being held in a hospital.
Staff from the Bocas del Toro Prosecutor’s Office went to the scene after initiating an ex officio investigation after the injured were admitted to the Chiriquí Grande hospital on Thursday afternoon.
According to the Office of the Attorney General, the National Aeronaval Service evacuated another 19 people to Forensic Sciences to establish other possible victims. According to the first procedures carried out, 50 members of an alleged sect were involved in a ritual.
