Local Writer Publishes her 6th Book

Diane Maxwell immigrated from the United States to Panama, getting her legal residency in early 2012. She has always put pen to paper but did not start publishing her works until after the pandemic. Her first book, An Expat’s Struggle – Making a Home in Panama, is a memoir describing the ups and downs of relocating to another country. Next came The Kathy Vallory Mystery Series about a retired nurse turned international pet sitter that solves murders at each job location. One even takes place in Nueva Gorgona, Panama. Now, she has just finished two years of research to produce a historical fiction called, My American Family – 1865-1965.
In her latest book, Diane takes you back in time to follow four separate families that merge into two, then into one. Their story travels from Ohio, South Dakota, Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, Oklahoma, and ends in California. The reader progresses through the end of the Civil War, to train, riverboat, and automobile travel, to farming, an Indian school, both World Wars, and early California life, including the Hollywood movie industry. Real names, dates, places, and events lend to the authenticity of the story that brings to life our ancestors’ experience in the United States.

Diane states, “People should celebrate the upcoming 250th birthday of the United States by reading my book that covers 100 years of American history.”
Others voiced their opinions after reading the book. MJ Mac, Internationally Awarded Cozy Mystery Author wrote, “From its opening lines, Diane Maxwell’s storytelling immediately pulls you into another time and refuses to let go until the final page. Her vivid attention to detail—rich with texture, scent, and atmosphere—brings the story to life with remarkable clarity. I found myself fully immersed in her family’s journey. A beautifully rendered glimpse into the past that lingers long after the final page.”
And Mary Griffin from Royality Reader wrote, “I enjoyed how the book blends historical moments with heartfelt family experiences. It’s a touching reminder of the strengths, struggles, and legacy that shape families over time. A beautifully crafted and memorable read for anyone who enjoys history, genealogy, and personal stories!”
A Book Launch with music and readings will be held at Nasca 21 Restaurant in Coronado on Thursday, July 2nd at 12:30 pm. WhatsApp 6398-1753 to reserve a spot.
