Classes are Suspended at Six Schools in Chiriquí: Gastrointestinal Illness Spikes

The emergence of cases of students and teachers with gastrointestinal symptoms forced educational authorities to temporarily suspend in-person classes at six educational centers in the province of Chiriquí. The Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Education reported that the decision was made as part of the preventive measures implemented in coordination with the Ministry of Health , with the aim of reducing risks and protecting the educational community.

According to the entity, the suspension applies to schools where a higher number of cases have been registered and is part of the biosafety protocols established for this type of situation.  The schools included in the measure are the Félix Olivares Contreras School, the David Institute, the Arnulfo Arias Madrid Professional and Technical Institute, the Nuestra Señora de Los Ángeles School, the Jean Piaget School and the La Esperanza School.

Authorities stated that they will continue to monitor the situation and will take the necessary actions to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and other staff at educational institutions.
