Restaurant Discounts for Retirees: When they Apply According to ACODECO
Pictured below is Francisco Azcárraga, head of Education at Acodeco. Retirees and pensioners in Panama as well as Expats are entitled to discounts at restaurants on the regular prices of products.
The Consumer Protection and Competition Authority (ACODECO) reminded retirees and pensioners that they are entitled to discounts at restaurants on consumption at regular prices. Francisco Azcárraga, head of Education at ACODECO, explained that the benefit corresponds to a 25% discount in restaurants and 15% in franchise establishments. The discount applies to the retiree’s entire meal, including appetizers and main courses. However, it is not granted solely on desserts or other individual items.

Acodeco Explains How Discounts for Retirees Work
The entity clarified that when a restaurant has special promotions, the retiree must choose between taking advantage of the offer of the day or receiving the discount established by law on the regular price. This means that the benefits are not cumulative, so the retiree discount cannot be applied to a product that is already on promotion. ACODECO reiterated that retirees always retain their right to the discount when they purchase products or services at regular price.

“The retiree will receive discounts at restaurants, 25% on the retiree’s consumption, or 15% on so-called franchises, this on a full meal, appetizer, main course, but not just on desserts. When there are promotions, the retiree will have the option to opt for the daily promotion or the regular price and their discount,” Francisco Azcárraga, head of Education at Acodeco.
