EOR Attributes a Blackout to the Loss of Generation at the Mine’s Plant Affecting 169,000 Panama Customers

A trip on one of the transmission lines and the Mexico-Guatemala interconnection is believed to have caused a power outage that began at 10:37 a.m. and lasted for seven minutes. The Central American Regional Power Operator attributes the outage to a trip on one of the units at the Cobre Panamá mine.

This Saturday, May 30, in the morning, customers of the Naturgy and ENSA electricity service reported a blackout that lasted approximately 7 minutes.  An Etesa electric transmission line is pictured below.

“We inform our customers that, at 10:37 am today, May 30, an event external to our network was registered, resulting from the tripping of a transmission line and the Mexico-Guatemala interconnection,” the distribution and marketing company indicated.
