Panama’s Chagres National Park is Closed Due to the Increased River Flow.
Chagres National Park will remain closed as a precaution from this Sunday until further notice due to the increased flow of the Chagres River, the Ministry of Environment (MiAMBIENTE) reported. The measure was adopted following the recommendations of the National Civil Protection System (SINAPROC) and seeks to protect the life and safety of visitors and communities located on the banks and areas of influence of the Chagres River and Lake Alajuela.
The Ministry of the Environment (MiAMBIENTE) reported that all sectors of this area are closed, including sites such as La Cascada and La Playita. This measure is mandatory for all national and international visitors, as well as tour operators. While the risk conditions persist, authorities urged the public to refrain from entering, navigating, swimming, or remaining on the banks of the Chagres River, due to the danger posed by rising water levels and possible flash floods. SINAPROC and MiAMBIENTE will maintain permanent monitoring of the area’s conditions and will determine when the necessary safety conditions exist to reopen access points.
