Panama Old Town Residents and Business Owners Report Months of Water Shortages and Low Water Pressure

Residents and business owners in the Old Town pictured below, located in the San Felipe district, are denouncing the lack of potable water in this historic area.

Residents near the Presidential Palace are also suffering from a lack of potable water. Both residents and businesses report that the shortages in the Old Town are concentrated on specific streets, a situation that is causing concern within the community.’ 


Failures in the supply of drinking water in various streets of the Old Town, located in the district of San Felipe, have become a recurring problem for several months, affecting residents, businesses, hotels, restaurants and schools, especially in an area of ​​high tourist impact. 


Lilia Mendoza, a resident of the Old Quarter and former candidate for district representative, reported that several sectors of the historic area have been experiencing low water pressure and irregular water supply for months. She stated that, despite filing reports with the 311 hotline and requesting meter inspections, they have not received any concrete solutions from the National Water and Sewerage Institute (IDAAN).
