Panama Immigration Intervenes in Streets and Borders Looking for Illegal Foreigners
The checks revealed several irregularities regartding those in Panama illegally.
Over the weekend, the National Migration Service (SNM) deployed simultaneous verification and control operations in eight provinces and regions of the country, as part of the Jupiter and Perseus actions. The tours covered Panama Metro stations, shopping centers, service establishments, land checkpoints, transport terminals, coastal areas and border sectors, where authorities inspected the immigration status of hundreds of people from more than 20 nationalities.
The inspections revealed various irregularities, including foreigners with expired stays, people working without the corresponding permit, citizens with legal impediments, and other violations of immigration regulations. Following the inspections, the National Migration Service (SNM) issued administrative citations and transferred several foreigners to Immigration Administrative Detention Centers to continue with the procedures established by law.
The institution also coordinated the rerouting of reverse migration flows from the Comarca Lagunera region to Guna Yala towards the border. In addition to enforcement actions, officials provided guidance to drivers and pedestrians on high-traffic roads regarding the obligation to keep documentation and permits for remaining in the country up to date. The National Migration Service indicated that these operations are carried out with the purpose of reinforcing compliance with migration regulations, guaranteeing order and ensuring the rights of the population.
