“I came here to work, not to occupy a seat.” With this phrase, journalist Susan Elizabeth Castillo concludes the statement issued after her departure from the Firefighters, following a year and three months as director of the Public Relations and Press Office. Castillo reported that she formally submitted her resignation on March 15, 2026, as director of the Office of Public Relations and Press, although she noted that her team had known about the decision for approximately a month.
“It was a difficult but necessary decision. I am starting a new professional chapter, motivated by a great opportunity that challenges me to continue growing. And yes, this time I also decided to think about myself,” she said.
She also stated that she is retiring “with a clear conscience,” noting that the anonymous complaints against her were addressed and dismissed by both the National Authority for Transparency and Access to Information (ANTAI) and the institution’s Internal Affairs department. The former director also highlighted her management, indicating that she leaves the institution with more than a 94% positive perception, according to monitoring by the company ‘Brain’, in the form of donations. The journalist expressed her gratitude for the support received both within and outside the organization and sent a message to the public:
“Continue to believe in and support our firefighters. There are good, committed people and a leadership focused on doing things right. Always stay informed through official channels.”
