Silencing the media for exposing corruption

T0O MANY governments try to censor the media, directly or indirectly, says Jonathan Farrar, US Ambassador to Panama.

He was speaking at an event to commemorate World Press Freedom Day Thursday May 2, attended by journalists from different guilds.
Farrar noted that many investigative journalists are being silenced for exposing corruption in their countries.
In the event, held at his home in La Cresta, the diplomat defended access to information as a basic right of humanity.
Fernan Mills, president of the National Council of Journalism (CNP), spoke about the pressures that exist in Panama on journalists and media: impunity, tax harassment, oppression through social networks and failure to access to information laws.
