Pressure mounts for explanation of multi no bid contracts
PRESSURE on Small Business Administration Director Giselle Burillo continues to mount with the latest call for transparency coming from the business community.
Various sectors of the country have called for "urgent" action by the Comptroller over multiple contracts totaling $3.5 million issued by Burillo to a consulting firm
The contracts were issued over the last 18 months and included training for manicures and pedicures, security and internet equipment and a photography business kit.
The Association of Business Executives called on the government to make sure public procurement is carried out in a transparent manner.
Through a press release, Apede said that "the government must adhere to the existing regulations and follow the rules of transparency and ethical values."
The Association said this is crucial to avoid these contracts from benefiting relatives and friends of government officials.
It said that this is the only way to ensure the honest and effective use of resources.
