The School Laptop Supplier is Josi Fares Fadiallal the ‘Panamanian Bukele’.
Josi Fares Fadiallal, a businessman who failed in his bid for a seat in the 2024 elections, represents the company that won the $28.4 million contract to supply 54,000 laptops to the Ministry of Education.
Josi Fares Fadiallal has presented himself as a businessman and philanthropist. He also adopted the nickname “the Panamanian Bukele” when he was campaigning for a seat in the National Assembly. After that failed attempt to reach the Assembly, a company linked to him obtained a $28.4 million contract with the Ministry of Education (Meduca). This company was the only one that submitted a proposal to Meduca to supply 54,000 laptops to teachers, even though there were 49 participants (47 companies and two private citizens) who attended the homologation event.
Homologation Event.
A homologation event or process is an official certification by a governing body that tests and approves a vehicle, part, track, or equipment such as a laptop to ensure it meets all safety and technical rules for a competition.
What Homologation Does.
- Approves compliance: Checks that a racecar, motorcycle, laptop or ski slope matches the required rules and measurements.
- Freezes specifications: Locks in a vehicle’s design for a set period so that teams do not constantly spend money on new upgrades.
- Ensures fairness: Keeps competition close and fair by making sure everyone follows the same baseline standards.
- Guarantees safety: Inspects critical parts like brakes, roll cages, CPU, hard drives, and structural designs to protect participants.
Where It Is Used.
- Motorsports: Governing groups like the FIA test race cars in wind tunnels and measure weights before clearing them to race.
- Skiing: Inspectors from the FIS check ski slopes for proper geometry and safety before allowing international races.
- Production Cars: Manufacturers build limited “homologation special” road cars just to meet the minimum public sales numbers required to race that design model in rally or track series, and now, laptops.
