US Navy Chief Warns Against Chinese Influence Over Strategic Panama Canal Access

The Panama Canal has once again become the center of a growing geopolitical debate after U.S. Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Daryl Caudle warned against outside influence over one of the world’s most strategically important waterways. Speaking in Panama City, Caudle emphasized that the United States views the Panama Canal as a critical national security asset, essential for moving naval forces between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

He stressed that Washington wants to ensure that no foreign power can influence access to the canal or dictate the movement of global commerce and military operations. While not directly accusing any country of controlling the waterway, Caudle specifically referenced concerns about China potentially gaining influence over canal operations. He argued that strong cooperation and intelligence-sharing between allies are necessary to protect the canal from potential threats and maintain open access.
