Panama’s Acodeco Detects Irregularities in Businesses in Colón Along With Counterfeit Products

Acodeco reiterated its call to economic agents to comply with consumer protection regulations. The agency also asks consumers to check expiration dates and inspect the condition of food. Report issues to Acodeco.

The Consumer Protection and Competition Defense Authority (Acodeco) known as ‘The Better Business Bureau” in other parts of the world, detected 2,147 irregularities during the verifications carried out between January and May 2026 in commercial establishments in the province of Colón.  According to the report from the regional administration of the entity, the main irregularity was the discovery of 1,913 expired products, followed by 164 spoiled foods, 55 cases of merchandise without a visible price and 14 products without an expiration date. 

Acodeco reiterated its call to economic agents to comply with consumer protection regulations and maintain adequate controls over the products they make available to the public.  The agency also asked consumers to check expiration dates, review the condition of food, and confirm that prices are clearly visible before making purchases, in order to avoid health risks and protect their rights.
