Following the Mass Escape from Panama’s La Joyita Prison Costa Rica Reinforced Surveillance on its Border

International media outlets have described the escape as ‘like something out of a movie,’ while Panama’s National Police are deploying 1,200 officers to capture 59 dangerous inmates who remain at large.

The Costa Rican government ordered an immediate reinforcement of surveillance on the border with Panama following the alert over the mass escape of 169 inmates from the La Joyita Penitentiary Center, Prensa Latina reported on Wednesday.  This preventative measure seeks to close the escape routes to Costa Rican territory for the 59 high-risk inmates who are still at large.
