Panama’s Mayor Mizrachi Confirms that Businesses were Occupying Squares in the Old Town Without Paying

Panama City officials pictured below confiscate chairs, tables, and umbrellas from restaurants in Plaza Bolívar, Casco Antiguo.

On the afternoon of Thursday, February 26th of this year, an operation by the Municipality of Panama took half a dozen restaurants located in the Herrera and Bolívar squares, in the San Felipe neighborhood, by surprise.

At that moment, Gasparín Belandría, representing the Association of Restaurants, Bars and Hotels of the Old Town (Arhca), acknowledged that it was necessary to comply with current regulations, although he asked that the actions be carried out “with greater tact” so as not to affect the experience of tourists.
