Government office closed by 5 hour fire

The Directorate of Public Procurement of Panama (CMPD),  will be closed Monday, April 6, after a fire in the Creditcorp  tower on Calle 50 on Saturday May 4, that took five hours to control. 

Fire Captain Angel Delgado, said that after dousing the fire, members of the National Directorate of Security, Fire Prevention and Investigation arrived to discover the cause.

He said that it is presumed that the fire was caused by electrical damage to a server computer system of the Directorate of  on the eighth floor of the building.

During the fire  two firefighters were affected: one for smoke inhalation and the second injured by the broken windows of the building when performing smoke ventilation works.
The department issued a press release saying it  will be closed Monday  May 6 and will establish temporary offices on the sixth floor of the HSBC building, located next to the Santuario Nacional 6th floor. The bank operates the government portal www.panamacompra.gob.pa,
"The technological equipment of the system lies in a different area in the city of Panama, for security reasons, so it will not interrupt the operation of the site " said the director general of the site Eldis Iván Sánchez Tuñón.
