Mae Lewis Health Expo for the Expat Community Coming to Boquete

BOQUETE, CHIRIQUÍ — Mae Lewis Medical Center invites the expat community to attend the Mae Lewis Health and Wellness Expo on Monday, September 28, 2026, from 2:00 to 6:30 p.m. at TapOut Sports Zone in Boquete.

This free educational event will help Americans and other international residents learn how to get the most from their international health coverage while receiving medical care in Panama.

Attendees will also have an opportunity to meet Mae Lewis representatives and learn about the medical center’s services, equipment, facilities, healthcare professionals, and international patient support.


Understanding Your International Health Coverage

Educational presentations will explain how international patients can use the following types of coverage at Mae Lewis Medical Center:

* International health insurance

* Medicare Advantage

* Other foreign health insurance plans

Mae Lewis’s international billing partners will present “Using International Health Insurance at Mae Lewis Medical Center.” The presentation will explain worldwide emergency and urgent-care coverage through Medicare Advantage and international insurance plans.

Attendees will learn about:

* Advance coverage verification for international policyholders

* Understanding their policy’s benefits and limitations

* The process for verifying insurance coverage

* Expected timelines for coverage verification

* How emergency authorizations are obtained

* When hospital deposits may be required

* Patient responsibilities, including deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and other out-of-pocket expenses

* What to expect when receiving care as an internationally insured patient

The presentation will be concise, practical, and specifically designed to help international residents understand the steps they should take before they need medical care.


Medicare Advantage Experts Available

Two Medicare Advantage for expats experts will give a short presentation and answer questions about using Medicare Advantage coverage for qualifying urgent and emergency medical care in Panama.

This is an excellent opportunity for Medicare beneficiaries to learn how international emergency coverage works, what they may need to pay, and why advance coverage verification is important.


Free Health Checkups

Expo attendees will also have access to free basic health checkups, including:

* Medical consultation

* Blood pressure reading

* Capillary blood glucose test

* Blood oxygen saturation test using pulse oximetry
