The powerful earthquakes will affect Caracas and mainly the neighboring state of La Guaira, where camps of families left homeless extend into stadiums, squares and sidewalks.  According to Rodríguez, more than 19,000 victims are living in these camps.  Venezuelan and foreign volunteers provide medical care in tents also set up in open areas and distribute food.  Rodríguez avoided speaking about the number of missing persons, a figure that the UN estimates at around 50,000. “The number of Venezuelans who died as a direct result of the terrible earthquakes of June 24 is 4,333,” Rodríguez said at a press conference.
