15 Fugitives Still On the Loose From La Joyita Prison Panama: Police Increase Reward to $4000 For Each

The escape occurred on June 1st during a riot at La Joyita prison. The incident occurred after a brawl that left three dead and eight wounded.

According to official Panama reports and the National Police, there are 15 fugitives still on the loose from the mass breakout at La Joyita Penitentiary. The initial breakout occurred on June 1, 2026, when an internal dispute and riot resulted in approximately 195 inmates escaping the facility. Following extensive search operations across the country, law enforcement successfully recaptured the vast majority of the escapees.

The latest updates regarding the incident include:

  • Recaptures: 180 of the 195 prisoners have been located and taken back into custody.
  • Ongoing Manhunt: Authorities, including the National Police and border forces, are actively searching for the remaining 15 inmates.
  • Rewards: The Panamanian government has raised the reward to $4,000 for actionable information leading to the capture of the remaining uncaptured fugitives.



The National Police increased to $4,000 the reward for information leading to the capture of the 15 inmates who are still at large after a mass escape that occurred on June 1st at La Joyita prison.  Also included is one person being prosecuted for gang-related offenses, two for aggravated robbery, and another for possession of a firearm.
