A Most Wanted Suspected Killer from the U.S. Captured in Panama After 30 Years
Captured on the Cinta Costera. American fugitive Richard Werstine had been wanted for more than 30 years and after being captured on the coastal strip confessed that he had illegally entered Panamanian territory in 2005.
He was walking around in sneakers, shorts, and a sports sweater, enjoying the tranquility of Urracá Park on Balboa Avenue, as if nothing were amiss. But an international operation between the U.S. Marshals Service and Panamanian authorities brought an end to more than 30 years of hiding for Richard Werstine, a 56-year-old American. The subject was one of the most elusive fugitives in Detroit, Michigan, after being accused of the murder of his roommate and singer of the hardcore punk band ‘Cold as Life’, Rodney Barger.
