Panama President Mulino Got an Earful from Costa Rica’s New President Laura Fernández
Costa Rica’s president-elect, Laura Fernández, spoke at her inauguration ceremony for the 2026-2030 term.
“Lift the Blockade on Costa Rican Products in Panama. I will not allow the restrictions to continue.” warns Costa Rican President Laura Fernández, and assures that she will seek an agreement with Mulino to reopen the market to agricultural exports in Panama. Costa Rican President Laura Fernández took a firm stance from the beginning of her term regarding the trade conflict with Panama, assuring that she would promote direct talks with the government of José Raúl Mulino to resolve the restrictions that limit the entry of Costa Rican agricultural products into the Panamanian market.

“I want to be very clear about this: I will not allow, and I will do everything in my power to ensure that Panama complies with its obligations. I have always believed that it is a country of freedom and the rule of law. Continuing with a blockade that prevents the receipt of Costa Rican dairy and meat products, knowing that it represents an obstacle to trade and affects a historically good neighborly relationship, is unacceptable in these times,” she stated.
