Deputies José Pérez Barboni, of the Otro Camino Movement, and Roberto Zúñiga, of the Vamos caucus, as well as Mayor Mayer Mizrachi, made an official visit this Saturday to the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz, which is in Panamanian waters as part of its tour of the region. The deputies landed on the deck of the vessel and had the opportunity to interact with some of the crew, observe the takeoff of fighter jets from the flight deck, and learn firsthand about the history and operation of one of the most imposing warships in the United States Navy.
The Aircraft Carrier USS Nimitz and the Destroyer USS Gridley Arrive in Panama Bay. The Destroyer was Docked at the Amador Cruise Port

This is part of the Southern Seas 2026 deployment, which began on March 12, and covers several countries in the region—including the Strait of Magellan—and includes stops in Brazil, Chile, Panama, and Jamaica before concluding on June 20 on the east coast of the United States.
Panama Bay awoke to a different sight this Sunday, March 29. Like a floating city emerging from the mist, the USS Nimitz entered Panamanian waters. It didn’t arrive alone: it was escorted by the USS Gridley, more discreet, but equally focused on its purpose. Together they represent power, history, and a message that transcends the naval sphere. The arrival of the vessels was received by the Minister of Security, Frank Ábrego, and the United States Ambassador to Panama, Kevin Marino Cabrera, who welcomed the crew amidst the naval deployment.
