Mulino highlighted that Panama has redefined its maritime strategy to maintain its leadership as a logistics and merchant marine hub.
The President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, held a meeting with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and Secretary of Energy Chris Wright on the sidelines of the Shield of the Americas Presidential Summit, held in Miami. The meeting focused on projects that will position Panama as an energy and logistics hub for the Latin American region. During the meeting, Mulino presented the progress of two strategic mega-projects.

Electrical interconnection project with Colombia, which will allow for a more efficient and reliable energy exchange in the region.
The Panama Canal gas pipeline, a key project that will consolidate the country on the international energy map.
“These projects put Panama on the energy map of Latin America and strengthen our position as a benchmark in strategic infrastructure,” Mulino stated.
Renewed Logistics and Maritime Strategy
The president emphasized that Panama has redefined its maritime strategy to maintain its leadership as a logistics and merchant marine hub serving global trade. The plans include:
- Construction of two strategic megaports.
- Development of a multimodal center in Puerto Armuelles, aimed at optimizing commercial connectivity and port operations.
US Support and Future Collaboration

Both Howard Lutnick and Chris Wright expressed their willingness to collaborate with Panama in their respective areas of expertise, highlighting the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in energy, trade, and logistics. The Shield of the Americas summit brought together leaders from the region with the goal of promoting security, economic prosperity, and strategic cooperation among countries of the continent.
