Panama’s Balboa Port Prepares for the Arrival of Container Ships and Reports 500 Successful Movements

Panama City, Panama: APM Terminals Panama reported that the process of stabilizing operations at the Port of Balboa is progressing positively, following the parallel execution of reception, loading, and technical testing tasks to ensure the continuity of port activities with the least possible impact on users and the logistics chain. The company detailed that key actions are currently being developed to consolidate the operational transition and strengthen efficiency at the Pacific terminal.

Reported Progress
- Staff training: 100% of the training for employees on the new terminal operating system was completed, allowing for a smooth transition in data and cargo management.
- Job replacement: At the end of the day, the employer replacement process was completed for 82% of the employees.
- General cargo: The service remains active. This Thursday, the first dry bulk cargo ship carrying imported rice was serviced. Vehicle deliveries to their owners also continue.
- Import cargo: Door tests were carried out with merchandise destined for the local market.
- Containerized cargo: The first container ship is scheduled to be serviced tomorrow, following tests carried out today on a second ship and the 500 successful movements performed on Wednesday.
- Rail connection: Three additional trains were dispatched, reinforcing logistical connectivity.
- Container reception: The reception of export and empty containers continues on its regular schedule.
- Perishable goods: Constant monitoring of refrigerated containers is maintained to protect sensitive cargo.
- Inventory: Under the supervision of the Panama Maritime Authority, the inventory of the terminal’s assets was completed. Following the assessment, the design and implementation phase of the equipment and infrastructure maintenance plan was activated.
The company reiterated that the goal is to guarantee the operational stability of the port and ensure the fluidity of the national and international logistics chain.
