After Revisalud’s Departure, AAUD Begins Replacing Garbage Containers in San Miguelito

The AAUD replaced Revisalud’s garbage boxes in San Miguelito and takes over the cleaning service, while discarding an addendum and facing a transition marked by political tensions.

AAUD (Autoridad de Aseo Urbano y Domiciliario) in Panama is the Urban and Domestic Cleaning Authority, the government body responsible for managing and ensuring waste collection and urban cleanliness across Panama City and its districts, handling everything from street sweeping, trash pickup, and managing disposal sites, often working with local municipalities and sometimes taking over services when private contractors fail. 

Key Functions & Activities:

• Waste Collection: Deploys teams for street cleaning, sweeping, and collecting household/commercial waste.
• Public Area Maintenance: Cleans tourist spots like the Amador Causeway after events.
• Enforcement: Fines businesses for improper garbage disposal.
• Emergency Response: Steps in to manage collection when private companies (like Revisalud in San Miguelito) fail, taking over services to prevent health risks.
• Coordination: Works with local mayors and councils (like in San Miguelito) to improve services. 

In essence, they are Panama’s public sanitation service, often called the “little ants” by locals for their cleaning efforts, dealing with general cleanliness and waste management issues.

They are a key player in municipal sanitation, managing trash collection for communities and public spaces, but have been in conflict with authorities over contract terms and payments.

Recent Activity: Involved in ongoing disputes with San Miguelito’s mayor regarding contract extensions and service continuity, with threats to suspend services due to unpaid debts.
