Attempting to Steal Copper Cables: A Colón Man Dies from Electrocution

A man died Saturday afternoon after suffering an electric shock in the city of Colón, in an incident recorded on 12th Street, Balboa Avenue, in the province of Colón. According to preliminary information, the individual entered an underground chamber intending to cut electrical cables to steal copper. During the attempt, he received a powerful electric shock that caused his immediate death, also generating an explosion that alarmed residents of the area.
National Police units arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area to preserve the scene, while officials from the Public Ministry removed the body and began the corresponding investigations. Authorities warned of the danger of entering these electrical infrastructures, as many people, in search of copper or other materials, are unaware that the cables remain energized, which can cause fatal accidents. The Public Prosecutor’s Office is maintaining an open investigation to clarify the circumstances of this case that occurred on the Atlantic Coast.
