BASEBALL: Panama swamps Guatemala in PanAm Championships

PANAMA'S under-21 baseball team kicked off it’s bid for a place in the World Cup with a 9-1 thrashing of Guatemala on Wednesday November 30.

The game was at the start of the Pan-American Championships being played in Panama.

The tournament will act as the qualifying event for the World Cup.
Manager Rodrigo Merón said that, despite the victory, the team will have to make adjustments.
Ibrahim McKenzie sparked the offense, which scored five runs in the first two innings. He had three home runs, a personal best.
That was enough for pitcher Alberto Baldonado to gain the easy victory. He worked six innings and recorded 14 strikeouts.
The tournament started with a tribute to former major league star Carlos Lee, who was being honored for his support of the event.
