Suspended mayor hiking Colon to Panama to protest suspension
The suspended mayor of Colon, Damaso Garcia, continue Sunday with his pilgrimage along Transístmica to the Supreme Court in Panama, where he will seek constitutional guarantees.
The mayor, accompanied by his two bodyguards, family and friends, left for Panama 1:30 pm, on Saturday.
Garcia said that the 80 mile walk isto protest at the illegality and violation of his constitutional rights, for his removal from office by the governor of the province of Colon, Pedro Rios, at the request of the Municipal Council.
On Sunday the mayor continued his hike despite the heat, to draw attention of both Panamanian and foreign media.
The Mayor announced that separate the various municipalities will also tour the country in search of the support and solidarity of his colleagues against what he considers an unlawful act not applied to other mayors.
