Metro Bus users file $5 million lawsuit
A GROUP of 40 people filed a lawsuit Monday against Metro bus operators Mi Bus and Sonda on the grounds that they offer poor service.
The legal representative of the group, Víctor Martínez, said that the lawsuit, which seeks $5 million in damages, was filed in the Ninth Circuit Court.
It states that the companies are responsible for damages due to poor service. The plaintiffs say they have suffered damages due to arriving late for their jobs and the long commutes they face to get home at night.
President Ricardo Martinelli, has said that he is willing to terminate the contracts given to the companies because of their "dismal" handling of the service, which started in 2011.
Mi Bus officials have said the arrival of 18 new buses will help improve service.
According to the contract given to Sonda, it was supposed to supply one million pre-paid cards and establish a minimum of 1,700 sales outlets to recharge them, goals which have not been met.
