Martinellis son and brother named in criminal complaint
The legal sector of the PRD filed a criminal complaint Thursday October 10 against a brother and a son of President Ricardo Martinelli for multiple alleged acts of corruption.
Those named were Francisco "Frankie" Martinelli (brother of the president); "Rica" Martinelli (a son); Rogelio Oruña (representative of the company IBT Group) and Valter Lavítola (currently detained in Italy) for the alleged acts of money laundering, conspiracy, corruption, illegal enrichment, fraud and other offenses.
PRD lawyer Luis García said that among the evidence submitted are reports published in the media about legal proceedings in Italy about the case.
Garcia said the criminal proceedings involving Lavitola and others in Italy have been widely publicized and should be investigated here.
PRD lawyers based their complaint on articles 43 and 46 of the United Nations Convention against Corruption. They said the public prosecutor should request information from Italian prosecutors to investigate possible wrongdoing in Panama.
