US Vice President follows tourist path to Miraflores
JOSEPH BIDEN Vice President of the United States followed in the footsteps of thousands of tourists before him on Tuesday, November 19, packing a tour of the Miraflores locks into a tightly orchestrated visit to Panama.
Biden was accompanied by President Ricardo Martinelli , and waterway administrator , Jorge Quijano , and members of the board of the Panama Canal Authority and watched the the passage of a ship through the locks.
The Miraflores tour was followed by a visit to the Cocolí expansion works of the waterway.
After the tour Biden headed for the Westin Playa Bonita, to hold a meeting with the presidential candidates of the Democratic Revolutionary Party, Panameñista Party and Deomcratic Change. The media had no access to the meeting.
Biden arrived in in Panama on Monday night and on Tuesday morning met with President Martinelli , at the Palace of the Herons.
Both described the meeting, where it was determined to continue working for the improvement of bilateral relations, as productive.
