Arias rejects claim that campaign stole information from Electoral Tribunal
CD PRESIDENTIAL candidate José Domingo Arias on Thursday March 13 attempted to refute allegations that his campaign took information from the Tribunal Electoral (TE).
He said that the data stored on the web sitewww.josedomingoarias.org was based on public information published by the TE. And augmented by personal interviews.
“We interviewed motivated voters to help us with our political process," he said.
He added that this is part of the modern political process and that “no one is attacking or bullying anybody."
Tribunal Judge Erasmo Pinilla has asked the attorney general to open an investigation into how the party collected the data and whether it was improperly made public.
CD General Secretary Rómulo Roux has also rejected the allegations of the TE judge.
"At no time has the CD used the database of the TE," Roux said.
He called the issue a "smokescreen" and said it is being used to discredit the CD candidate without any basis in fact reports La Prensa.
The information in the database included people's names, identity numbers, political affiliations and whether or not they were enrolled in any public assistance programs.
