Indigenous leaders reject Barro Blanco plan
A PROPOSAL by President Juan Carlos Varela that sought to allow the completion of the hydroelectric plant, has been rejected by Indigenous leaders.
Varela called for indigenous groups to allow the completion of the 95% finished project, located on the Tabasara River. He said the hydroelectric plant would not enter into operation until talks were held with the communities impacted by the project.
But theproposal was rejected by a group led by Chief Silvia Carrera, who said the project needs to be dismantled reports La Prensa.
Indigenous protesters have prevented workers from getting to the site for months.
