Feted in Panama, Berlusconi paramour jail bound
THE PLATINUM BLONDE “Lady in White” who was given red carpet treatment in Panama by the ruling political elite when she arrived on the arm of then Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, is facing a potential 10 year jail term in Italy.
Anti-Mafia Prosecutor Giovanni Conzo, has asked trial judges in The court of Naples for the 10-year sentence for Federica Gagliardi for international drug trafficking.
She is known as the “white lady” for the sumptuous dresses that adorned State receptions, and were flaunted in Panama at the presidential palace when Ricardo Martinelli ruled and the then 28-year-old was the latest paramour of Berlusconi.
In March 2013, aged 33, she was intercepted by officers of the Guardia di Finanza of Italy, with 24 kilos of pure cocaine hidden in her suitcase after arriving from Venezuela, at Rome’s Fiumicino airport.
Naples prosecutors dismantled a criminal network that was trafficking drugs from Latin America to countries such as Italy, Holland and Spain.
More than 25 defendants have been convicted, and, the judges have been asked to hand down prison sentence totaling more than 300 years.
The 24 kilos of cocaine seized from the “white lady” would have served only as a sample. During investigations, 63 kilos of cocaine and 930 kilos of hashish were seized, which could have been sold for about $50 million.
Research sources revealed to reporters that the head of the criminal drug trafficking organization in Latin America was Pasquale Fiorente,who is being sought by Interpol.
Federica Gagliardi traveled on the official plane with the Italian Valter Lavítola when Berlusconi, visited Panama in late June 2010. She was received with full honors at the Palace of the Herons, by members of the Martinelli Cabinet.
She was also went with local authorities and several Italian businessmen to participate in an inspection of the expansion work of the Panama Canal.
The beautiful woman was also part of the official Italian delegation to the high-level meetings of the G-8, in Toronto (Canada) in June 2010 report Italian media
During the process, prosecutors investigated Gagliardi trips on the official aircraft of the Italian State, to Panama and Brazil, among other countries.
