Bids for Cathedral restoration project

TWO SPANISH Companies are interested  in restoring the Santa Maria la Antigua Cathedral in  Casco Viejo.

Consorcio La Antigua and the Asociación Accidental Catedral Santa María presented  bids to the   National Institute of Culture (Inac)  on Tuesday  September 15 both bids were above $12 million.

The proposals will be evaluated by a committee of three architects, a lawyer and an economist. The bid is expected to be awarded by the end of the month. Work is to start in November and will  take two years.

The church needs repairs to its ceilings, walls, floors, bell tower, stained glass and pews.
