Supreme Court lacks funding for true indpendence
PANAMA’S SUPREME COURT will not have true independence unless it has the funds needed to implement its programs and projects said outgoing judge Harley Mitchell said in his act of accountability for his 10 years of service in the court.
According to Mitchell, the lack of funds means that the justice system cannot effectively solve the prosecution baxklog for lack of personnel and equipment.
Mitchell also considered it necessary that the judiciary has involvement in the selection process for the Supreme Court reports La Prensa.
“I find it necessary to introduce a constitutional amendment allowed the court to participate in the selection process”, reiterated the magistrate who ends his duties on December 31, 2015
At the accountability act was Judge Angela Russo, who will replace Mitchell in the position of judge of the Civil Division of the Supreme Court.
