Martinelli back in Panama jail

Ex-president Ricardo Martinelli is back behind bars in El Renacer prison. He was discharged  from Hospital Santo on Thursday, June 14  after forensic doctors from the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences (imelcf) concluded that his condition “is stable”.

He had been transferred to Santo Tomas(HST)  on Monday a couple of hours after Judge of Guarantees Jerónimo Mejía ordered him detained while awaiting trial for illegal spying on political opponents. journalists and businessmen  The Supreme Court judge acting as prosecutor is calling for a 21-year jail term.

Martinelli was extradited from the US, earlier in the day after 364 days in a Federal Detention Center in Miami.

The three specialist doctors of Imelcf who examined  Martinelli at Santo Tomás l reported that his condition

“is stable”. Sharlyn Silva and Ricaurte González, forensics, and Olga Alvarado, legalist, who examined Martinelli on the night of June 12 June, explained that the acute condition that caused the hospitalization was compensated.

The doctors reported that in the clinical record of St. Thomas were the following diagnoses of Martinelli: hypertensive crisis, fibrillation, paroxysmal auricular, coronary disease, glaucoma, anxiety, ventral hernia, and prostatism. At a Tuesday hearing it was reported that while in El Renacer, Martinelli refused to take his medication.

Questioned by  Dimas Guevara, lawyer of Martinelli, about different interpretations of the pathologies described, the team of Doctors emphasized that they were not entrusted with a diagnosis of the patient but a “legal medical evaluation”.
