OPINION: Infamous Child Deaths Require Honesty,Transparency

It is disheartening that the Social Security Fund divulges to the nation the infamous news of the death of 21 infants in the month of July. The practice of scientific medicine is governed by strict treatment protocols and statistical controls, which requires a strong ethical commitment on the part of all those involved. With the CSS history  a simple vote of confidence  in what is stated by its high authorities cannot be extended. A transparent exercise of medical oversight that analyzes what happened. Losing a life at the hands of “chance” or “luck”, even if it is a statistical anomaly, requires extraordinary measures to restore the confidence of a whole country in its health services. Panama has not recovered from the events of the diethylene glycol scandal,, babies  killed by eparin and the ravages of nosocomial bacteria. Although it is known that all high-risk medical treatment can have fatal consequences, the 21 deceased infants deserve to be honored with the truth.
