Former mayor elected party leader
Former Panama mayor and presidential candidate José Isabel Blandón is the new president of the Panamanista Party sidelining the Varela family compact for at least the next two years.
The vote took place at the party’s Extraordinary Convention on Sunday, November 24 in Penonomé, Cocle province.
Blandón obtained 803 of the 1,272 valid votes,
“Today a cycle that governed the party for 13 years is closed. Today begins a new cycle, a Panamanian Party that will go through a process of renewal, openness, and inclusion. It will be the first game of the traditional ones that will be renewed, ”said Blandón.
