Panama prepares “the day after” plan for economy
Panama has prepared an action plan to reactivate the economy “the day after” the pandemic while guaranteeing a safety net for unpaid service bills said president Laurentino Cortizo in an address to the nation on Tuesday, March 31.
Speaking from the Atlapa convention center, the collection point for the Panama Solidarity plan, to support low-income citizens with food bags and vouchers he reported that 106 measures to manage the economy are already on the list and 27 of them are decisions already taken.
He mentioned the moratorium that banks will give in personal loans, mortgages and credit cards, announced by a group of banks earlier in the day.
The president also announced that next week he will give information on the contribution that officials who earn salaries above $1,000 will make to the Panama Solidarity plan.
Cortizo also said that there will be no water, electricity, internet or telephone cuts for unpaid bills.
