Plane crash-lands on city highway

A Cessna 172 aircraft carrying health officials returning from a mission to the Guna Yala crash-landed on La Amistad Avenue near the Panamanian Chinese School in the El Dorado sector of the capital on Monday morning May 1.

Ameth Vargas, captain of the aircraft, said that there were mechanical failures and the Marcos A. Gelabert airport runway, located in Albrook, had no space at that time, so an emergency landing had to be made in that area.

Operations units and the Fire Department arrived in the area after the accident.

Following the incident, departure, and arrival operations at the Marcos A. Gelabert Int. Airport were temporarily suspended.

Civil Aeronautics began investigations into the cause of the accident.
