Acodeco verifies discounts for retirees, pensioners, and senior citizens. Acodeco will intensify operations and verifications to ensure compliance with Law 6 regarding discounts.

Panamanian Law 6 of 1987 guarantees nationwide discounts and benefits for retirees, pensioners, and senior citizens. It applies to women aged 55 and older, men aged 60 and older, and all official retirees or pensioners regardless of gender or nationality.

Key Discounts

  • Hotels: 50% off Monday to Thursday, and 30% off on weekends.
  • Entertainment: 50% off movies, theaters, concerts, and sporting events.
  • Restaurants: 25% off food prices at restaurants nationwide. Don’t believe nonsense about specials.
  • Travel: 25% off domestic and international airline tickets.
  • Utilities: 25% off electricity, phone, and water bills in the resident’s name.
  • Healthcare: 20% off private doctor visits and medical consultations, plus discounts on prescription medicines.

The Consumer Protection and Competition Authority (Acodeco) announced that it will reinforce operations, verifications and guidance actions to guarantee compliance with Law 6, which establishes discounts for retirees, pensioners and senior citizens in Panama. The entity reported that these actions seek to ensure that businesses and service providers correctly apply the benefits contemplated in current legislation.  As part of the measures, Acodeco will strengthen inspections in commercial establishments and develop educational activities to inform both consumers and economic agents about the provisions of Law 6.  The goal is to verify that discounts are granted in accordance with regulations and to promote respect for the rights of retirees, pensioners, and senior citizens.

Law 6 Protects Discounts for Retirees and Senior Citizens

Law 6 establishes a series of discounts and benefits for retirees, pensioners and senior citizens on various goods and services.  With these operations, Acodeco seeks to reinforce compliance with regulations and ensure that this sector of the population receives the benefits to which it is entitled by law.  The institution urged businesses to comply with legal provisions and reminded consumers that they can file complaints if they detect irregularities in the application of discounts.
