Victims will be Moved to a Temporary Shelter Due to a Fire in the Old Town of Panama
Families affected by the fire on Calle 12 in Casco Antiguo will be moved to the Beto Remón gymnasium, while Miviot evaluates a solution. A raging fire in a mansion in the Old Town left nearly 80 people affected.
Families who lost their homes after the raging fire that completely destroyed a large house located on Calle 12, in the Old Town, will be temporarily relocated to a shelter set up in the José “Beto” Remón gymnasium, in Calidonia. According to the census of victims carried out by the Ministry of Housing and Territorial Planning (Miviot), the disaster left 81 people affected, including 32 adults, 13 senior citizens, 7 teenagers, 23 children, and 6 babies up to three months old.

Government Coordinates Assistance to Affected Families
The President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, reported that the Office of the First Lady, the Ministry of Housing and Territorial Planning (MIVIOT), the Ministry of Social Development (MIDES) and the other entities that make up the Social Cabinet are working together to provide assistance to the victims. According to the president of Panama, the priority is to ensure that families have a safe temporary shelter while technical assessments of the affected property are carried out.
Miviot will Assess the Damage for a Permanent Relocation
Mulino indicated that, once the Miviot inspections are completed, the Government will move forward in the process to help families access a permanent housing solution. Authorities are coordinating social and humanitarian assistance for those affected by the fire, while continuing to support those who lost their belongings and homes in this incident in the Old Town.
