650 Turtle Eggs Seized on Isla Cañas: 60-Year-Old Man Arrested

Units of the National Police, in coordination with park rangers from the Ministry of Environment, apprehended a 60-year-old man during a control and surveillance patrol in the Isla Cañas Wildlife Refuge, located in the district of Tonosí, province of Los Santos.  As a result of the operation, authorities seized 650 turtle eggs, an illegal practice that directly affects protection and conservation programs for this endangered species. 

The Isla Cañas Wildlife Refuge is a key area for the nesting of sea turtles, so this type of crime represents a significant threat to the biodiversity of the area.  The National Police reiterated its commitment to continue developing joint operations with the Ministry of Environment, with the aim of combating environmental crimes, strengthening surveillance in protected areas and preserving the natural resources of the province of Los Santos.
