Hemodialysis Patients Threaten Closure at Horacio Díaz Gómez Polyclinic in Santiago

The patients’ group pictured below is calling on family and friends to join the pressure tactics this Friday.

A group of hemodialysis patients from the Horacio Díaz Gómez Polyclinic  of the Social Security Fund (CSS) in  Santiago, Veraguas, are demanding urgent improvements in the service they receive daily. Those affected warned that, if they do not receive a concrete solution this Friday, they will proceed to completely close the entrances and exits of the medical facility.

The Demands of the Patients

The discontent among users who depend on this specialized service to preserve their health is based on specific care needs:

Optimization of Schedules:  They complain that for several months they have requested the administration to efficiently reorganize the service shifts in order to reduce the prolonged waiting times.

Proper Nutrition:  The treatments require strict regimens; therefore they require a substantial improvement in the food provided during medical sessions.   “So far we have not received any concrete answers from the polyclinic authorities,” explained Martín Guerra, spokesperson for the patients.  For her part, patient Yesica Aranda agreed that the requests have been formalized repeatedly before the administrative bodies without any corrective measures being taken in the quota distribution system.

Official Position and Closure Warning

For his part, the director of the medical unit, Mauricio Campos, simply stated that the administration is making the necessary efforts to resolve the problem. However, given the lack of firm commitments, the patients’ group reaffirmed the date for this Friday and called on family, friends and community members to join the protest near the Santiago polyclinic.
